Visiting ArtistsThanks to Alaska Airlines and Delta Airlines for helping to bring our guests, and to our hotel partners—Hotel deLuxe, Hotel Modera, and Heathman Hotel—for their hospitality in providing guest accommodations. DIRECTOR Ross Finkle, United States—PELOTERO (2/19 at 2:30 p.m. [WH]) The 35th Portland International Film Festival and Cinema 21 present Wim Wenders will visit Cinema 21 on Thursday, February 16 to introduce the 7 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. screenings of his 3-D documentary Pina—a contender for this year's Academy Awards. Wenders will also facilitate a Q&A session following the 7 p.m. screening. February 16 is the last day the film will screen at Cinema 21 before it moves on to Living Room Theaters. Filmed as a tribute to the late German modern-dance choreographer Pina Bausch—dancer and long-time friend of Wenders—Pina is a celebration of movement and the legacy Bausch left behind after passing away suddenly in 2009. Pina captures selections of Bausch’s work as performed by members of the Tanztheater Wuppertal. Adding an element of depth, the 3-D medium accentuates the profound expression and dazzling interpretation of dance, giving a lifelike quality to the many backdrops of the film. On January 24, Pina received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary Feature, a nomination shared by Wenders and producer Gian-Piero Ringel. General admission: $11.00 35th Portland International Film Festival (PIFF) passes do not gain admittance to this special event.
