Happy 40th Birthday Party!
OPENING NIGHT PARTY
Friday, November 11, 9 p.m.
Portland Art Museum's Fields Ballroom, 1119 SW Park Avenue

Put the babies to bed and join us for the Film Center’s 40th Birthday Party. We like to think we’re a young 40 and we’ll have two of Portland’s hottest bands on hand, BRAINSTORM and DIRTY MITTENS, to quiet the naysayers.

In addition to the no-host bar, there will be complimentary snacks available and, thanks to generous donations from many of your local bakeries, a stunning display of birthday cakes to be admired and served. To add to the excitement, we’ve invited Chris Lael Larson to add a superstar video installation titled SPIRIT UP 2011.

Thank you to MacTarnahan’s Brewing Company, New Deal Vodka, Odwalla, TAZO Tea, and Alicia J. Rose. Birthday cakes donated by Alder Pastry and Dessert, Artisan Cake Company, Black Sheep Bakery, Cupcake Jones, Gluten Free Gem Bakery, New Cascadia Traditional, Papa Haydn, Pastrygirl, Pearl Bakery, Pix Patisserie, Portland Style Cheesecake and Dessert Co., Saint Cupcake, Voodoo Doughnut, and more!

ADMISSION: $10 party only; $15 includes Opening Night Screening at 7 p.m. Party 21+.

SPIRIT UP 2011: TWO CHANNEL VIDEO INSTALLATION

Artist: Chris Lael Larson

SPIRIT UP redirects cheerleading’s hallmark vivacity toward ordinary people and their everyday challenges creating a more populist application of cheer choreography. Through slow-motion abstraction of its movement, gesture, expression, and dress, SPIRIT UP recontextualizes a uniquely American spectacle and recasts the glassine glee and “wholesome” pseudo-sexual subtext of modern cheerleading.

FESTIVAL WRAP PARTY
Sunday, November 20, 8 p.m.
School of Film, 934 SW Salmon

Let’s put this baby to bed with a little help from you, MacTarnahan’s Brewing, TAZO Tea, and the rest of our supporters. Come have a drink, talk to the filmmakers, salute the 38th (and the 40th), and share thoughts for next year.
