FACING THE STORM: STORY OF THE AMERICAN BISON
DIRECTOR: DOUG HAWES-DAVIS - MONTANA (MISSOULA)
FACING THE STORM is the epic account of our tempestuous relationship with the iconic symbol of wild America. As it explores the visionary quest to protect and restore bison and details the inextricable relationship of the Plains Indians with the animal, the film also recounts the harrowing near-destruction of the species in the late 19th century—from an estimated 30 million bison to a mere 23 by 1885. DIRECTOR: NICK PETERSON, MARY DEFREESE - OREGON (PORTLAND)
(NAR) In this second feature from Portland filmmaker Nick Peterson (YELLOW), made almost entirely by bicycle, Matt and Natalie, recently separated from each other, resume their YELLOW relationship after a chance meeting. Passion clouds their perception, and they soon fall back into destructive patterns. Further complicating the situation, each is absorbed in exploring ideas about their own mortality. Jealousy and communication problems resurface, and they separate once again. To cope with the loss, Natalie isolates herself and experiments with a radically different place in society.
